Kesteven Rugby's Girls' teams return to action against Peterborough

Ruth Holmes13 May 2021 - 08:17

After a long, Covid-induced wait, Sunday saw the return to competition for the ever-growing Kesteven Girls section.

By Martyn Parker

The Kesteven U13, U15 and U18 age groups (supplemented by a couple of Boston players on loan), hosted Peterborough Girls in pitch perfect conditions.

Peterborough, notorious for fielding strong sides both in terms of numbers and ability, gave all three teams a good game.

The U13s Peterborough side showed exceptional organisation and strength in attack, which was met by some great defensive work by the K’s girls – two of whom were playing their first ever game.

Ks didn’t post a win this time but the work rate was to be applauded, as well as some tremendous tackling and rucking (from Olivia and Bea in particular).

Kesteven Girl's U15s faced a similarly strong team. Following a slow start, they fought back strongly from a 5-15 score at the first water-break to a 30-30 tie at the final whistle.

A similar story for the U18s, with the girls fighting hard against a fiercely strong side to score a try from Millie. Despite the hard work, great tackling and teamwork the team lost, but have come away with some good learnings ready for Newark next week.

Kesteven Rugby has three, age-banded Girls' squads: U18s, U15s and U13s. All new players welcome! Feel free to come to one of our training sessions on Sunday mornings from 10am.
