Kesteven 2XV Impress in Friendly Win Against Mosborough 2XV

With their scheduled league game postponed, Kesteven 2XV found themselves traveling to Sheffield to face Mosborough 2XV in a friendly match. Despite the unfamiliar opposition, Kesteven put on a commanding display to secure a 41-19 victory.

Kesteven started strongly, with Jack Jonson making an immediate impact on the wing. His powerful running saw him cross the line twice early on, demonstrating his strength by bulldozing through Mosborough’s defense. Unfortunately, the first conversion attempt missed the mark, but Sam Hawkins added the extras on the second try, giving Kesteven a lead.

Mosborough fought back, scoring a converted try to keep the game competitive. However, Kesteven continued to apply pressure, and Jonson completed his hat-trick, once again powering over his opposite number. The conversion was missed, but Kesteven maintained control.

Mosborough responded with an unconverted try to reduce the deficit. However, Kesteven’s Sean Nel, filling in at scrum-half, took control. Nel scored two well-worked tries.

A standout moment came when Hawkins executed a rare drop goal from directly in front of the posts, extending Kesteven's lead. Mosborough scored their third and final try, which was converted, but Kesteven had the final say when Zeph Hillyer crossed the line, with Hawkins once again providing the assist.

A fantastic break on the half-way line by Michael Pinder almost saw another try added to the tally but upon realising how far he'd have to run, Pinder thought better of it and opted to take the ball into contact to protect his lungs.

Man of the Match honors went to Sean Nel, who was instrumental in Kesteven’s attack despite playing out of position. His calm and collected play at scrum-half was crucial to maintaining Kesteven’s tempo. Jack Jonson was another standout, scoring three powerful tries on the wing. Bailey’s relentless work at the breakdown also deserves special mention, as his rucking was instrumental in keeping Mosborough on the back foot.

Kesteven Rugby Club were impressed by the warm welcome from Mosborough and look forward to a potential return fixture later in the season. It was a great opportunity for the team to build momentum as they continue to develop in preparation for their first elusive league fixture.
